This program provides graduate tuition support for graduate fellows or trainees whose stipends are paid by an eligible university unit or directly by the institution via competitive training grants and/or portable external fellowships (examples are NSF Graduate Research Fellowship Program, Ford Foundation Predoctoral and Dissertation Fellowship Program, etc.) in which the cost of education allowance falls short of meeting the tuition needs of fellows or trainees, and whose stipends provide a stipend value equivalent to that provided by at least a .49 FTE graduate appointment as specified by the minimum recommended stipend guidelines published annually by the Graduate School.
The intent of this program is to maximize the value of traineeships and fellowships by supplementing cost of education allowances that do not cover the full instructional tuition and fees of graduate students funded by such programs.
To be eligible for tuition scholarship support, a student must qualify for appointment as a Graduate Fellow at OSU. See Graduate Fellow eligibility requirements here: http://gradschool.oregonstate.edu/finance/graduate-fellowships-and-scholarships/graduate-fellowship-policies.
Requests may be submitted by the nominee's graduate program director, unit chair/head, degree program coordinator, student's advisor, or principal investigator of the fellowship award. Students may not directly request support. To request support for the 2024-2025 academic year, please complete the Tuition Support Request survey for each anticipated student on fellowship.
PLEASE NOTE: The Graduate School’s tuition waiver support funding for 2023-2024 is fully committed at this time. If you have questions, send an email to [email protected].

Tuition support scholarships will be applied toward tuition of up to 12 credits each academic term, with no provision for summer or mandatory fees unless provided in the cost of education allowance. Partial tuition support scholarships are available when the trainee has a portion of their award dedicated directly to tuition costs. Tuition scholarships may be awarded on a full-year or per-term basis, depending on the duration and distribution of the fellowship stipend.
Tuition scholarships will be posted directly to the fellow's student account at the beginning of each academic term during the award period, pending the fellow's eligibility and required enrollment for the term.
Deadline for nomination is Monday, February 19, 2024 at 11:59pm. Qualification decisions will be provided no later than Friday, March 8, 2024.
Point 5 within the OSU graduate tuition waiver policy for fellowships and targeted non-appointment support.
Please Note: The Graduate School's tuition support program awards are subject to budget availability and must be requested each year by the student's program per Graduate School guidelines.
