Whether you’re supporting a recitation, leading a lab section, grading for a large lecture, designing and teaching your own course, or hoping to teach someday, this orientation will focus on unique needs and challenges international students might face while teaching in the U.S. classroom.
All international graduate students are welcome, especially those who will have a teaching position during the 2024-2025 academic year. Those who do not have a position, or who are unsure if they will, are also welcome to attend to gain skills for future teaching activities.
All international GTAs are highly encouraged to come. Some academic units require attendance. Please check with your program if you are unsure whether your attendance is required. Students who attend this session will also attend the all-student teaching orientation in the afternoon from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Please be sure to register for both sessions.

Are you new to teaching or simply just new to teaching at OSU? Either way, this orientation is for you! Designed to support all new graduate students and faculty, this orientation provides preparation support for the first day of class, and information on where to leverage campus resources to support your teaching throughout the year. Participants will be able to select from a range of topics including getting to know Canvas, creating an inclusive classroom, a graduate students panel Q&A, and more!
New teaching and research graduate students, and new faculty are welcome. Those with or without a Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) position, as well as international students (who may have attended the morning session) are encouraged to attend.
