From the Graduate School

Message from Dean Mote

It has been my pleasure to serve as Dean of the Graduate School for the past six years. Alix Gitelman, Senior Vice Provost for Academic Affairs, sent a note to all graduate students stating that the Graduate School's primary functions are transitioning to new administrative homes March 17. As a student, your experience should not be impacted. The functions and resources of the Graduate school will still be offered by the same staff at the same locations (Heckart Lodge and online).

What does this mean for your academic support as a student?

Your primary contacts for student support will remain the same. We expect little disruption to the student academic journey as these internal administrative changes are completed.

I will be returning to my academic home in the College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences on June 30. Until that time, I will assist with the transition as senior advisor to the Provost. I have been honored to lead the Graduate School and meet many of you.

If you have any questions regarding the Grad School transition, please direct those to Steph Bernell, director of the new Office of Graduate Education.

Thank you,

Philip Mote
Vice Provost and Dean
The Graduate School
Oregon State University

Grad Advantage Gives You an Edge: Giveaway Announcement

If you want the chance to win a $25 gift card this month, there is a simple three step way to enter.

  1. Take your OSU Grad Advantage self-assessment today. OSU Grad Advantage provides students a self-assessment tool to gauge their current level in five core competencies and provides opportunities for improvement.
  2. Attend an event on campus that relates to this month's core competency: Mentoring, Facilitation and Teaching. It can be an event highlighted by the Graduate School or not. It simply needs to extend your knowledge or skillset in the correlating core competency.
  3. Self-report your attendance here to be entered into the raffle.

For the next several months, the Graduate School will be highlighting each of the core competencies outlined in the assessment and providing resources to events and ways to learn more about each.
