Step up your teaching and facilitation game with the GCCUT graduate certificate

The Graduate Certificate in College and University Teaching provides advanced course work and experiential learning opportunities for students who plan to teach in higher education settings or in other fields requiring similar skills. Students completing the 18-credit certificate program will receive a transcript-visible credential.

The GCCUT is designed to be completed in two years, and may be done in conjunction with a concurrent graduate degree or on its own as a standalone (without an accompanying graduate degree) certificate. There are two versions of the GCCUT program, one at the Oregon State Corvallis campus and the other through Oregon State Ecampus.

Applications for the fall 2021 term for both program versions are now open until August 23, 2021. Students can expect to receive an admissions decision within two weeks of their application submission.

Visit the GCCUT website to learn more and apply. Current students do not pay an application fee!

Transforming STEM: Changing the culture and widening the pathways

In this presentation, Dr. Aradhna Tripati, who is internationally known for her research in clumped isotope geochemistry and climate change, will show how she built communities of learning and practice to advance a culture of inclusion at the nation’s first university center for diversity in environmental science, which she founded. By sharing key findings from her work, she will answer the questions: How can data and interventions transform science? How can we achieve systemic change and prioritize the retention of diverse scholars, improve institutional climates, and support faculty and early career development?

When: 1 to 2:30 p.m. PDT, Friday, May 21
Where: Register for Transforming STEM webinar or attend the YouTube live stream.

This event is hosted by Unpacking Diversity a College of Earth, Ocean, and Atmospheric Sciences Professional Learning Community. For disability-related accommodation requests or questions, please email Thi Truong, [email protected].

Join a peer support group

Remote learning can be tough and many students are facing unique challenges. Connecting, sharing experiences, and discovering new strategies with peers can help during these unprecedented times.

The Academic Success Center and Counseling & Psychological Services are here to support you in navigating success during times of uncertainty with peer support groups. The groups cover topics such as time management, focus and motivation. They will also discuss ways to maintain balance and self-care during times of stress. Drop-ins are always welcome!

Graduate students will meet via Zoom every other Tuesday from noon to 1 p.m. in weeks 3, 5, 7, 9, and finals week during spring term. Use this link to join: https://beav.es/osA

Oregon Diversity Career Symposium

The Oregon Diversity Career Symposium is intentionally designed to help prepare students with marginalized identities on their path from college to career. They define students with marginalized identities as first-generation students, students of color, women, veterans, non-traditional students, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, students from economically disadvantaged backgrounds, international students, students with disabilities, and any other students who have otherwise struggled with impostor syndrome and the implicit expectation that they assimilate to dominant cultural norms, and change who they are to “fit in.”

When: 1 to 6 p.m. PDT, May 19, 2021
Where: Register
