Join the Graduation Celebration Raffle!

Despite OSU's spring commencement postponement, the Graduate School wants to celebrate your graduation! To do so, we're asking that you send us photos, videos, or short testimonials that speak to your graduate successes that we'll share to honor your hard work and accomplishments. All those who submit qualified entries will be entered to win one of two $250 cash prizes.

All entries require the following:

  • That you completed your graduate degree or certificate during the 2019-20 academic year by no later than June 12
  • Submit a short testimonial
  • Submit a celebratory photo/video

The deadline to enter is June 12, 2020 at 11:59 p.m. Winners will be notified via email on June 16.

Summer writing groups

As a member of a graduate writing group, you will spend an hour each week with professionals from the Graduate Writing Center. Activities for each week vary based on students' needs, but are limited to: guided peer review of your own writing, guided peer review of published writing from your discipline and individual writing time.

Professional development award for master's and doctoral students

Need a way to help pay for professional development activities? Apply for up to a $250 reimbursement to cover expenses from a training or other resource you are using to boost your skills. Current COVID-19 travel restrictions apply.

Students may receive up to three Professional Development Awards per academic year. Recipients must be enrolled in a master's or doctoral degree program, with a minimum registration of three graduate credits during the term of the proposed activity.

New course for GTAs coming this fall plus an online development course

GRAD 599 - Graduate teaching seminar (CRN: 20194), fall term, Ecampus, 1 credit

This is a 1-credit, just-in-time pedagogy and teaching support course for Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs) at Oregon State University during the 2020-2021 academic year. This course will provide support for GTAs and other graduate students across OSU's academic disciplines who teach site-based, hybrid, and online courses. The course focuses on evidence-based pedagogical practices with an emphasis on practical strategies and problem-solving, and will be tuned to graduate students' needs and the classes they are instructing.

GRAD 550 - Introduction to online course development and facilitation (CRN: 16445), fall term, Ecampus, 2 credits

Prepares students to develop and teach hybrid and fully online courses. Students explore practical aspects of hybrid and online course development and facilitation: a brief history of distance education and pedagogical theory; course design principles; engagement of adult learners; active learning; and investigation of how online instruction, in addition to offering flexibility and convenience, also offers distinct pedagogical benefits. Open to students in all disciplines.


New employee service: Beyond Benefits

A new employee assistance program begins on July 1, called Beyond Benefits. The program is available to graduate assistants, postdoc scholars, classified staff, academic faculty, professional faculty, and household members.

Beyond Benefits provides resources for family needs, financial needs, mental/emotional support needs and legal needs. Employees will have access to online resources, online communities and on-demand learning programs. Additionally, consultants can create personalized action plans related to individual employee needs.

Health insurance Q&A for graduate assistants and fellows

The Grad Health team will be hosting a Q&A session on Zoom. Please join to ask any questions related to your health insurance plan, how to add dependents, plan costs, and any other questions you may have.

CAPS single session clinic for graduate students

Meet with a counselor for a one-time only session to discuss a current problem or concern. The counselor will help you clarify your problem and work with you to develop skills and strategies to create a personalized action plan.

When you go to the Single Session Clinic web page, find the link "Click here to schedule graduate students."

Starting on May 1, blocks of time are reserved for grad students, Thursdays 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., and Fridays 10:30 11:30 a.m. Grad students can schedule for any available appointment throughout the week, but these blocks of time are reserved only for them.
