Currently in the MCB PhD program, Courtney Armour is studying with Dr. Tom Sharpton with the Departments of Microbiology and Statistics. Armour is studying the microbiome, specifically the bacterial communities that inhabit the intestine. The microbiomes studied by Armour influence metabolic diseases like diabetes. Armour's research is mostly computational as she investigates the genomic characteristics of microbiomes.

Originally from Phoenix, AZ, Armour had always been interested the Pacific Northwest for graduate school. Armour received with a Bachelor's degree in General Biological Sciences with a focus in Microbiology at Arizona State University. Having experience as a research assistant technician at the University of Arizona during her gap year, fueled her desire to continue her education through the MCB program. Aside from her studies, Armour enjoys hiking and being outdoors in Oregon with her dog.
