Come to our GTA teaching training to get ready for the classroom. Our partners at the library will help you master your research during Library Day. And don't forget to meet some new friends at the all-grad student and family barbecue. Let's go!

The Graduate School welcomes all new graduate students to attend this university-wide graduate orientation and resource fair, designed to ease your transition into graduate school at OSU. At this event, you'll learn about academic and professional expectations of graduate students, resources on and off campus, you'll meet peers and begin to create long-lasting connections.

 

Family Barbecue for All New and Current Students

5:30-7 p.m.

Student Experience Center Plaza

The Graduate School is hosting a networking BBQ for all graduate students and their families. Come to enjoy good food and conversation, connect with old and new peers, catch up with the Graduate School and welcome the newest group of graduate students to OSU.

International Student Orientation

Geared especially for international students, workshops will include the F1/J1 Visa Session to present important immigration regulations, information sessions to introduce campus resources, U.S. cultural concepts, and institutional policies and basic laws. Immigration document check-ins will take place during the week. An introduction to the sponsored student program will also be provided for sponsored students.

Graduate Teaching Assistant (GTA) Orientation

Thursday, September 14 and Friday, September 15

International GTA Orientation

8-noon

Location: To be announced.

Audience: All new International Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs).

Whether you're supporting a recitation, leading a lab section, grading for a large lecture, designing and teaching your own course, or just want additional training related to teaching, this orientation will focus on unique needs and challenges international GTAs might face in the U.S. classroom.

Please note: While this event is geared toward new international GTAs, those who are continuing with their degrees beyond their first year are also welcome to attend; please contact us to register.

 

All GTA Orientation

8 a.m. - 2:30 p.m.

Location: To be announced.

Audience: All new Graduate Teaching Assistants (GTAs), including new international GTAs who may have attended the 9/14 event.

Where you’re supporting a recitation, leading a lab section, grading for a large lecture, designing and teaching your own course, or just want additional training related to teaching, this orientation will focus on essential information about instructional policies and procedures and provide an overview of OSU’s diverse student population. Additional concurrent sessions on topics such as instructional technology, grading basics, and curriculum design will be available.

International GTAs: this session is different from the Thursday International GTA training. You should plan to attend both days.
