The Graduate School is pleased to invite nominations from faculty for the 2018-19 Diversity Scholar Recruitment Award. The purpose of this award is to support inclusiveness in graduate programs, to recruit and retain students from divergent and non-traditional backgrounds, and to enrich the academic environment by embracing a broad range of perspectives.
The Diversity Scholar Recruitment Award will provide tuition waiver and remission budget from the Graduate School in support of fully-funded (.49 FTE or equivalent level Fellowship) academic year appointments at the level of a Graduate Fellow (preferred) or Graduate Research/Teaching Assistantship. Eligible student nominees must be first year, PhD level graduate students who meet diversity enhancement and high-achieving academic criteria. Priority will be given to students newly recruited to OSU (first degree at OSU) and nominated by newly hired tenured/tenure-track faculty (hired to position 2013-14 or later). Students with undergraduate degrees from OSU are eligible as long as they are starting their first graduate degree at OSU.
For each student award, faculty/units must appoint student to an academic year (9 month) Graduate Fellowship or GRA/GTA appointment (.49 FTE). If selected for an award, the Graduate School will provide an academic year tuition waiver scholarship for a Graduate Fellowship appointment, OR provide equivalent funding to the department via budget transfer of an academic year tuition remission for a Graduate Assistant. Appointments will be made and administered by the individual units receiving the awards. Individual faculty may submit two student nominations.
Student is starting their first graduate degree at OSU, regularly-admitted, degree-seeking, PhD-level, with preference given to students newly recruited to OSU (first degree at OSU).
The major professor must be a tenure-track or tenured faculty rank, with preference given to newly-hired, assistant/associate professors (hired 2013-14 and later).
- The student will be appointed as a Graduate Fellow or GRA/GTA in the program.
- We anticipate making up to 30 tuition coverage awards.
Appointments can be Graduate Fellowships or GAs; Graduate Fellowships are preferred. Appointments will be administered by the unit/programs.
Units can fund Graduate Fellowship stipends from any index that is allowed to be used for fellowship or scholarship support (endowed or non-endowed; discretionary, gift) and that will allow a tuition waiver from a separate funding source.
GRA/GTA appointments can be from any unit/program source allowable, including unsponsored department research.
Nominations will be accepted until 5:00pm on January 23, 2018.
